Bombay Halwa - Cornflour Halwa

Happy Diwali to all my friends and relatives.

Went through my archive and realised that I do not have much of recipes with sweets. I did some googling and came across this cornflour halwa. Thought of giving it a try and it was worth it.
The cornflour halwa also known as Bombay Halwa turned out delicious and all the guests visiting me today just loved it.

I still have to try my hands on more sweets recipes. My guests could not believe that it is made out of cornflour and my heart was filled with happiness that everyone loved it.
My hubby was the first one to lift my spirits. He just said "Halwo samko kastacho zala" meaning "Halwa is awesome".

When I cut it into pieces, my little one started flicking pieces one by one. I just could not take a photo as she was taking away the pieces. Finally I somehow managed to click photos once she was asleep.

This recipe was found in Priya's blog. Thanks Priya it was just awesome.

Sukya Bangdyachi Kishmoor / Dry Mackerel Kishmoor

My every visit to Goa makes sure that I get some dry Mackerel back home. This comes handy when we crave for fish and when fish is not easily available. I love to have this kishmoor with the proper Goan Fish Thali comprising rice, fish curry, fried fish and sol kadi.

The recipe mentioned below is how I prepare kishmoor.
I love to add a little more tamarind to this dish as I prefer the tangy taste. The tamarind paste can be done by soaking a fistful of tamarind pulp for 30 Min's in 1/2 cup water. I really prefer the tamarind paste which I prepare at home. The chilly powder can also be adjusted as per your taste.
It is important to fry the dry Mackerel on the tawa so as to remove the raw fish taste.

You might be tempted to ask me what Kishmoor means?
I myself wonder what is the meaning of kishmoor :) Will surely go and do some study and let you people know the meaning. This can also be called as a type of salad as no cooking is required in this. But that is just a wild guess. OK, let me go and find the meaning... till then please have a look at the below recipe and try it in your kitchen too.

Ingredients:
5-6 dry mackerel
4 tablespoon grated coconut
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon chilly powder
1 big onion
3 tablespoon tamarind paste
1/2 tsp salt

Procedure:
Soak the dry mackerel in water for 4 hrs.
After 4 hrs scrap the skin and cut them into small 1/2 inch pieces carefully by separating the fish bones. This works better if done by hand.
Fry the dry mackerel pieces on tawa for 2 minutes and let it cool down.

Chop the onion into small pieces. Add the grated coconut, turmeric and chilly powder to this. Now add the small fried dry mackerel pieces. To this add the tamarind paste.
Mix everything properly.
Add salt to taste.

Serve this with Rice, Fish Curry and fried fish :)

Bombay Pav Bhaji

Bombay Pav Bhaji, the smell of it on the streets of Bombay... Mmmm... Just love it.

I have been prepaing this since the past 5 years and I suddenly thought of posting it on my blog. This Special Pav Bhaji has been my a favorite in my home. My hubby was startled when I prepared this first time for him.
He just loves this dish prepared by me. Even if we go to some hotels, he never orders Pav Bhaji. He says that the best pav bhaji in Bangalore is made by his wife.

There are beautiful memories associated with Pav Bhaji. During my 2nd job, I was sent to Mysore for training. My hubby missed me a lot that time. Once he told his friends, "My wife prepares the best Pav Bhaji." His friend said "Pav Bhaji? That ready mix?." Hubby said "No, she prepares it from scratch. But she is in Mysore and I can get it after 2 and 1/2 months when she is back."

The same smell and the taste which can be found on the streets of Bombay/Mumbai can also be found in Raksha's Kitchen. The veges of your choice can be added and it is a very healthy dish for fussy kids too. The kids won't even come to know about the various veges which have been added to this. Just give it a try once and get drenched into this mouth-watering taste.

Instant Oats Dosa

What to do with a packet of oats lying in my kitchen pantry???
The regular oats porridge has become very boring and all dislike it in my kitchen. Wanted to prepare something with oats, so that even my little one would consume some of it.

www.... Just googled out and found a wonderful recipe from one of the food blogs from the blogosphere. Immediately tried the recipe and it turned out just awesome. Since then this recipe has become a hit in my kitchen and since it is instant, it does not take much time too :)

When my mom had visited me, I told her about oats doss and she could not believe her ears. I prepared and served it to her and she just loved it and praised me a lot. The look on her face after she ate the oats doss is something I will always cherish. She asked me to prepare it and show her live so that she can cook it for my dad and brother.
