Um mm... I have always loved Indo-Chinese recipes. Of particular interest is the Gobi Manchurian. Gobi meaning Cauliflower. I learnt making Gobi Manchurian from my cousin who is a chef. I learnt this when I was studying MCA in Belgaum some 8 years back. The memories of that day when I learnt this dish are still fresh in my mind. Since then I have been following this recipe to cook Manchurian.
My father is a vegetarian and he likes Gobi Manchurian. My brother loves Chicken Manchurian. I wanted to cook something which both would relish and eat. I prepared Gobi Manchurian and served this dish. I told my dad that it's Gobi Manchurian cause it did not look like cauliflower but looked like chicken Manchurian.
While eating, my brother came to know that it's cauliflower and that was when we burst out laughing. Both of them liked the dish.
The April Fool's Challenge was a great success in my home. Yes, not on the 1st of April, but at least before the month of fool's i.e. April's got over :)
Ingredients:
15-20 cauliflower florets
For the batter:
5 tablespoon all purpose flour
5 tablespoon corn flour
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
1 tsp black pepper powder
Pinch of salt
Water to make batter
For the sauce:
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 small capsicum
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 green chillies, slit midways (use to taste)
2 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tsp green chilly sauce (optional but recommended)
2 tsp soy sauce
2 tsp cornflour mixed with 4 tbsp water

1 veg maggi cube

Procedure:
Make the batter of thick consistency.
In a wok, add 2 cups oil, coat the cauliflower florets and fry them in oil until golden brown.
Spread them on a kitchen towel so that the extra oil gets drained.
Switch off the gas and separate the extra oil from the wok carefully and in the same wok fry the onions.
Then add the chopped garlic and fry till the raw smell of garlic goes off.
Add the capsicum and fry for sometime.
Add the maggi cube and the sauces and mix properly.
Now add the soy sauce and mix well.
Now add the cornflour mixed with water and heat till the sauce thickens.
Add salt to taste.
Now the sauce is ready and the cauliflower florets too. So, mix the fried cauliflower florets in sauce.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

ReplyDeleteRaksha,if you don't get fresh red chillies then try it this way.. soak the dry red chillies in water for few hours and then boil them.the rest of the procedure is same for the chilli sauce.
