It's time to change. Yes, I am writing my thoughts today, this is something different from the regular posts that I write about my experiments in kitchen. I want to write this post because this is something which is never noticed.
Last week I was travelling to my home-town Goa.
This was the first time that I travelled on spice-jet. There is no direct flight to Goa from Bangalore by spice-jet. I did not want to travel by Kingfisher either. So we decided to fly by the Spice-jet via from Bangalore to Goa via Mumbai.
The journey from Bangalore to Mumbai was really good. We had to stay at the Mumbai airport for 4 hours. But we did not realise how the time flew by. We had lunch outside the airport at Balaji Pure Veg Restaurant. Soon after having lunch we returned back to the check-in counter for our flight to Goa.
The announcement was made to board the flight to Goa. All the passengers were in a long queue. There were some guys standing behind me. They seemed to be educated. But the way they were pushing other passengers to get into the aircraft was really annoying. I gave them way and wondered why they were rushing, as if the aircraft would leave them behind :) In the aircraft I saw another set of guys running around, I thought that they must be excited as this might be their first journey by airplane.
Soon we all were seated. The air hostesses started the safety demo and everything was just perfect. Very soon, the air hostess noticed one gentleman recording the demo on his mobile phone. She yelled at him and snatched his mobile phone and deleted the video. Following this she went to take her seat near the emergency exit as the flight was ready for take off. Just when she was about to sit someone from the back seat yelled "Ganapati Bappa Morya". All were laughing and the air hostess felt a bit embarrassed.
After take off, air hostess started serving the meals. A bunch of guys, around 10 of them, got up from their seats and proceeded to the rest room. This caused a lot of inconvenience to the air hostesses as they could not move comfortably. All these guys were decent guys aged somewhere in their 30's. But they wanted a young air hostess to tell them to be in a queue to the rest room and be seated and to proceed one by one.
Another gentleman, a decent one though took out his camera and started recording the air hostesses serving meals. Again they snatched off the camera and deleted the video.
I could see how frustrated these 3 ladies were.
I am sure by reading the above, you might have got a picture of how guys behave with the air hostesses.
Also I understood why the guys in the queue behind me wanted to rush to the aircraft... probably they wanted to see the air hostesses :)
These air hostesses are young girls from respected families. The passengers travelling by any airlines should understand that they are also someones daughters/sisters.
Why should these guys behave in such a rude way with the air hostess? Have they never seen any girls around?
These air hostesses may seem helpless inside the airplane, as it's their job to serve the passengers and to ensure passengers safety. But who is there to ensure their safety? I am not sure.
So I would like every airline to have a code of conduct to the passengers. Anyone violating it, would be punished. There should be security guard for the air hostesses travelling in every airline and this security guard should note down the cases of misconduct. The punishment should be enforced after the aircraft lands.
The time has changed, but still the attitude of some men has not changed. These are all educated and decent men from very good families, but still the way they behaved with the air hostesses was pathetic.
This shows that men are simply men and they will never change. And then, it becomes difficult for ladies to be independent.
So if men can't change, then we have to enforce some sort of law for the safety of the Indian air hostesses.
