Goan Special – Drumstick Curry / Sangacho Ross

Many people want to see a lot of Goan recipes here. Today I will write about Goan Drumstick Curry/ Sangacho Ross. We prepare this curry in Goa on veg days. This ross/curry is another specialty of the GSB community of Goa. The GSB's in Goa have their own unique style of cooking and I love to cook dishes belonging to my tradition even after getting settled in Bangalore.

My hubby loves this drumstick curry and he says that he prefers this curry to the usual Dal tadka which we prepare here. If you really wanna try some Goan dishes, do try this curry. Serve it with rice, subzi, pickle, papad and some fodi as mentioned in the previous post.

Ingredients:                                     Prep. Time: 20 Mins, Serves: 4
5 tbsp toor dal
2 drumsticks
½ onion

For the gravy:
4 tbsp grated coconut
1 tsp coriander seeds
4 red chilies
1 marble sized ball of tamarind
1 tsp turmeric powder

Procedure:
Step 1:
Soak the toor daal in water for 2 hrs. Then pressure cook the daal along with the chopped onion.

Step 2:
Peel and cut the drumsticks into 3 inch pieces. Boil them in water separately and keep aside. Drain the water but do not discard it.

Step 3:
Grind all the ingredients mentioned above for gravy with ½ cup water and keep aside.

Step 4:
Now, place another utensil on the gas. Add the pressure cooked Dal to the utensil. To that add the gravy and finally add the boiled drumsticks. If the gravy is too thick, add the water which was used to boil the drumsticks as it has the flavor.

Step 5:
Finally, add 1 tsp salt or salt as per your taste.

Note: Serve this drumstick curry with rice.
