                           "जै माता दी"
Today the whole of India and Indian's across the world are celebrating the festival of Navratri. This festival marks the victory of good over evil. Throughout India people will be involved in prayers, performing poojas day and night continuously for the next 9 days. During this time, people observe fast by eating pure vegetarian food, or a diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables. Some people don't eat grains and some people even don't eat ginger. Onion and garlic is a complete no-no across every community in India.

Navaratri is a nine day festival of feasting and fasting. During this time, the devotees  fast for 9 days to purify their mind, soul and heart. Navaratri is a period abut cleansing our own body and building good karma. Many observe the fast for religious reasons, but others do so to detoxify their bodies.

Last week I had visited Mast Kalandar at CMH Road in Bangalore. They serve authentic North Indian food and I was there for a special food tasting event. At the event we were presented with a cooking demo. The Chef Samta Gupta presented this recipe name "Papite Ki Chutney" or Papaya chutney. I was actually surprised by the easy yet delicious recipes that she presented. I could not wait any longer to try it. Thought of giving it a try and it turned great. To top it all, these recipes can be consued during the fasting days.

Papaya can be replaced by any other fruit like guava or apple. You can even add pomegranate to this recipe. Addition of Rock salt ensures that this recipe can be consumed on fasting days.
