During my recent vacation in Goa, my only motive was to try a lot of dishes with fish. Right from Surmai/King Fish to Sardines and Mackerels to Prawns and Crabs, I ate almost all the types of fish and really had a feast. My Mom taught me some more dishes with fish. They will be up on my blog soon. One day my brother got home some crabs. I actually did not know how to clean the crabs, but my sister in law was sweet enough to clean them. She also taught me to clean and to cut them. Thanks to D.
I actually wanted to visit the fish market one day. But I was too lazy to get up early in the morning and go to fish market. They say that only early morning we get really a good catch. But my brother was too sweet to get different varieties of fish. Today's recipe is another addition to my signature "Rava Fried" recipes. This turns absolutely tasty, just that you need to have a lot of patience and really good teeth to break the crab shell. I would say, forget the time it takes to eat this, but just enjoy this delicacy.
Ingredients: Serves: 4, Prep. Time: 30 Min's
4-5 crabs
1 tsp + 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp + 1/2 tsp chilly powder
1/4 + 3/4 tablespoon salt
1 cup rava/semolina
2 tablespoon oil
Procedure:
Wash the crabs and clean them. Cut them into two parts after breaking the back shell.
Break the crab legs.
Marinate the crabs as follows:
Add all the crab pieces into a bowl.
Apply 3/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp chilly powder.
Mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes.
For frying:
Mix rava, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp each of turmeric powder and chilly powder.
Coat the marinated crabs in rava.
Heat the frying pan and spread oil. Add more oil if required.Place the crabs on the pan and fry on low flame.
After 10 minutes flip them to the other side. If desired add more oil after flipping to the other side.
Fry them for 15 minutes. You know they are done when the rava turns brownish and a nice aroma gets emitted from the crab.
