Crab Masala | Spicy Crab Gravy | Crab Recipes | Crab legs

I just realised that this wonderful recipe is lying in my archives. I had cooked this recipe during my trip to Goa when my brother came home with fresh crab catch. It was a great chance for me to try something delicious as I love Crabs. Also I am a cancerian and I love being crabby all the time as most of the time I am in my shell. Though I could have tried the regular Crab Tonak that we Goan's make, I decided to try another amazing recipe which will be accepted globally by everyone.

I also tried Fried Crabs, check the recipe by clicking on this link. You will be able to find number of videos on YouTube on how to cut and clean crabs. My bhabhi told me to refer YouTube videos on cutting and cleaning crabs as I have never ever cut and cleaned crabs in my life. Forget crabs, though I eat fish I never cut it. I just don't know and I just can't get my hands dirty. My hubby gets fish which is already cut. In Goa, we have to buy fish and then get it home and cut and clean. But in Goa, someone or the other does the cleaning and cutting part.

I hope you all will like this recipe. Do try it.Crabs can be replaced by any fish in this recipe and you will get a yummy fish masala. How about replacing crabs by prawns? Try it out, its all upto you and you can modify the recipe as per your taste.
Ingredients:                 Serves:6, Prep. Time: 30 Min's, Marination: 30 Min's.
For Marinating the crabs:
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt

For making the masala:
4 Crabs
3 medium sized onions
2 medium sized tomatoes
1 bayleaf
10 garlic pods
2 tablespoon coriander/dhania powder
1 tablespoon cumin/jeera powder
1 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp chili powder
Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
1/2 cup water(optional)
4 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste

Procedure:
Wash and clean the crabs. Cut each crab into 4 pieces. Cut the crab legs into 2 pieces.
Crabs can be easily cut if the back cover of them is removed.
Marinate the cut pieces of crabs with the masala meant for marination. Keep aside for 30 Min's.

In a kadai/wok/pan, add oil. When oil gets heated, add chopped onion. After onion turns pinkish, add paste made out of the garlic pods. Saute for sometime and with close the lid of the pan.

Add chopped tomatoes and bayleaf and stir everything. Let it get cooked till the tomatoes turn mushy.

Now add all the spice powders and mix well.

Add the marinated crabs and mix. Add 1/2 cup water if needed.

I preferred some gravy so I added 1/2 cup water. You can increase the water to 1 cup.

Let the crabs get cooked in this gravy for atleast 20 Min's.

Add salt to taste. Remember that some salt was already added to the crabs while marinating it.

When the crabs get cooked in this gravy, the flavor of the crabs will get mixed in the gravy and thus will be awesome.
My mouth is watering now :)

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Enjoy with rice :) Yum Yum!!!
