Tips For Home And Kitchen Improvement

Since Republic Day is on Monday this year, we got a really long weekend. I decided that I would not go out anywhere but will relax in the luxury of my home and to finish off long pending tasks. The first thing that was on my mind was to declutter and to clean my house and kitchen.  It was a big task which was pending since the last 9 Months. I had renovated my house in April 2014, since then I was planning to give my home and kitchen a new look. So here are some tips that will help you all if you are planning to declutter your home. I will also give some tips on how to have maximum savings when you are trying to improve your home and kitchen.

Start with one room at a time
Since I have a 3 bedroom apartment, I divided the work for all the 3 days.
Clean the wardrobes and discard any clothes which you have not used since last 6 months. Any clothes which you do not need for the season can be stored separately. For e.g. Woolen clothes are not needed in summer season. Remove them from the wardrobe and store them in the store room.  If you do not have a store room then store them in the loft or in the compartments under your bed. If your bed does not have compartments, then you can store them into unused and empty briefcases or bags. I love to store them in the below shown boxes which are available at Fabfurnish.com. They look chic and add a new style to your home. Don’t worry about the prices, you can save a lot when you shop with Fabfurnish.Discard any unused clothes, towels and bed sheets. Have a strong heart for this. Either donate to charity or give them to your house help.

Store all the important documents in one place
Store all the papers of a particular type in one particular file. E.g. Store property papers in one file. Bank papers in another file. Childs fee receipts in another. Medical prescriptions in another. You can reserve a particular drawer in cupboard for this.

Declutter the kid’s room
Start with checking the toys. You will need to involve your kid in this activity. Ask him/her what all toys they need. If they do not use it or if it is damaged, just discard it. Organize all the toys in these storage big boxes.

Clean the study table
Discard your child’s old books. Children store any kind of books. My kid just scribbles on all the pages of book and stores them in her drawer. You can check these and discard them. All the stationery items i.e. Pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, etc. to be stored separately.

Clean the shoe-rack
Any shoes/jootis/sandals which have not been used since long can either be discarded or stored in a separate shoe rack.

Store all medicines in one place
Keep all the medicines in one place.

Store all cosmetics together
Keep all the cosmetics in one place. I loved this vitality box which is one place to store all my vanity stuff.  Discard old cosmetics or creams which you have collected but not used since a long time.

Declutter the kitchen
Start with a single shelf or drawer. Have patience and whatever you feel you don’t need just pack them in a separate bag. I take my things one shelf or drawer at a time because I have a lot of other distracting things to be done like cooking for my family, taking my kids homework, etc. If you have not used a particular type of utensil since a long time, then you can store it in the top most shelf. If you have a lot of pans you can hang them.

Discard any containers which do not have lids or any lids which do not have container. Any oily stained plastic containers can be discarded. Do not store the white plastic disposable takeaway.
Any non-stick utensil of which the non-stick coating is gone needs to be discarded. Do not even think about storing them in the top shelf. Also any rusted or cracked steel utensils should be immediately discarded.

Clean the kitchen panty
Discard any expired products. Any sauces, jam bottles needs to be discarded immediately.

Make a list of the arranged items
Make a list of what is stored where. Making a list helps 6 months down the line when we forget where and in which room we have placed a particular thing. You can keep this list handy, probably in your room. If you have stored them in boxes, neatly label the boxes. You can put a date when you have arranged stuff in that particular box. You can purchase new storage boxes at discounted price at Priceburp.com. Priceburp.com has a lot of discount coupons for online shopping with various retailers like Flipkart, Pepperfry, Lenskart, Fabfurnish, Myntra, Snapdeal, Jabong, eBay, etc.

After you find the stuff that you no longer need, just give them away. If the product is in a very good condition but you don’t need it any more then you can sell it at a cheaper rate by finding out second sale groups around. Facebook has many such groups.
After you discard you will get lot of new space in your home. Apart from that it helps you to organize your home.
