Come the summer season and you will see various types of recipes being prepared using the seasonal summer produce. Breadfruit is one such vegetable that you will see on trees in this summer season. Some people don't know how to prepare this tasty vegetable. I don't know whether it is fruit or vegetable, but I'll call it a vegetable since we make
breadfruit subzi and also these tasty fried breadfruit. My Mom prepares number of dishes with breadfruit, infact a lot of breadfruit recipes can be done.
We have a huge breadfruit tree in our backyard at our home in Goa and breadfruits grow in bunches there. During this season, we remove them, cook and eat or simply distribute these to our relatives and friends. Normally it is removed using a long bamboo stick and people try to catch them with hands when they fall after the tree is being shook.

Breadfruit is a rich source of dietary fiber and is rich in energy and minerals. Some of my vegetarian friends simply don't eat this and the reason that they give is that it looks like flesh after being cooked and so they don't feel like eating. I somehow feel that this is an excuse. People should see the advantages offered by a nutritious vegetable like breadfruit but instead they give excuses saying that it looks like non-veg. I would suggest everyone to cook this and to include this in your meals atleast in this season. My Mom used to tell me that God has made some particular types of fruits and vegetables which grows only in a specific season and we should consume more of those during that season. There is also a scientific reason associated with this. Anyways I won't get into that discussion.
