How To Set A Home Bar

Someone asked me once how to set a bar at home. I thought about this. I am also a beginner in setting up a bar at home. But it is a must when you have parties and some special guests.

The bar that you intend to set up can be a small kitchen cabinet or maybe a whole new cupboard. It should be able to display what all brands you have in you home bar and should be well organised.  You will learn more as you start setting up your own home bar.

One such brand that I prefer is Black Dog Scotch. It really adds value to the parties and brings them to the next level. A level where there is luxury and celebrations.

There are some terms that you have to understand before setting up a home bar (source) :

Liquors – They are hard alcohols, A.k.a spirits like gin, vodka, whisky or brandy. They are distilled from grains, fruits or vegetables and contain no sugar.

Liquers – These are alcohol flavored with herbs, fruits, nuts and/or spices and have sugar added. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif(pre-dinner drink) or digestif ( post-dinner drink) or mixed to make cocktails.

Bitters – These are very concentrated form of liquer(yet they don’t taste sweet, but rather bitter as their name suggests) used in small amounts ( a few dashes is all you need) in drinks and cocktails.

Mixers – They are non-alcoholic additions in mixed drinks and cocktails.  They include sodas, such as tonic water, seltzer, lemon-lime soda, and juices such as cranberry, orange, lemon and lime.

Syrups – They are used to sweeten drinks and cocktails. The classic type is a simple syrup, made from equal amounts sugar and water heated to a simmer and then chilled. Simple syrups can further be infused with fruits, herbs or spices or they can be made from alternative sweeteners like honey or agave syrup.

Apart from all these, some wine and drink serving trays, cocktail glasses, tall glasses, an ice bucket, shaker, glass pitcher, have to be kept in the home kitchen. It is always better to have several brands and several types of drinks. But without Black Dog Scotch it’s incomplete. And when the guests like the drinks served to them, sometimes the host/hostess gets more gifts. So my suggestion is to keep Black Dog Scotch in the home bar.
