You always wondered what to make for breakfast? Making the same idli, dosa and chapatis for breakfast is at times boring and we need some new ideas. Not only kids, but we adults too get bored of eating the same thing everyday. So why not try something new? Sesame Potato Toast is a great recipe to make for breakfast or for snack time. The toast is made up of any type of bread, boiled and mashed potatoes and a generous amount of sesame seeds. The mashed potatoes are then applied to the bread and is topped with sesame seeds. This is then shallow fried in oil.
If you use a non-stick pan, you can make this toast using very little oil thus making it healthier. As it contains sesame seeds it is loaded with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium, magnesium, fiber, protein, etc.
The toast can be prepared within very less time. So when you are pressed for time, you can simply boil or steam the potatoes at night, mash them and keep in the fridge. Next day in the morning, you can prepare the toast and thus save time during the morning rush hours. You can also try this
onion and parmesan toast for a quick breakfast.
Ingredients: Prep. Time: 30 Mins, Serves: 4
4 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 medium sized potatoes
1 small bunch fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
2 green chilies, finely chopped
4 whole wheat bread slices
2 teaspoon chat masala
Salt to taste
Oil for frying the toast
Procedure:
1) First wash the potatoes and boil/steam them.
Peel and mash the boiled potatoes.
2) In a mixing bowl, add the mashed potatoes, chopped coriander leaves, chopped green chilies and chat masala.
Mix salt to taste.
3) Take a bread slice and apply 2 tablespoon of the mashed potato mixture on it.
4) Pour the sesame seeds on a plate.
5) Reverse the bread on which the mashed potato mixture has been applied on the plate with sesame seeds. Lightly press the bread on the sesame seeds.
6) Heat a tava/frying pan, spread 1 tablespoon oil.
7) Now shallow fry the bread upside down with the sesame potato mixture facing downwards in the pan. Fry till the sesame seeds become slightly brownish. This should take around 10 Minutes
8) Then flip the bread to the other side and fry for 5 more Minutes.
Note: Serve it hot with some tomato ketchup with a cup of tea or
fresh juice.
